The Wayward Cloud: one of the most original films I've seen. Tsai-Ming Liang has a minimalist formal vocabulary but here his usage of the allegorical is a masterstroke. Watermelon's for water. Pornography for Sex. The images he delivers towards the allegorical exploration of sexual and food habits, are disturbing to some extent, and quizzical to the extreme. This is a leap of imagination. The final sequence is a cinematic achievement of the highest order. Performance, Pornography, Cinema, Love, Human, Consciousness: they all come under the investigative lens under one roof. Who is performing for who? Who is watching who? Tremendous!
