Regardless of how controversial it may sound, I sincerely feel Bodyguard is a marginally better film than Ra.One, and both are comprehensively better than 3 Idiots. It goes without saying however that they are all rather pathetic films set in impossible universes all of which Kareena somehow manages to penetrate. I am far more touched by the naked conservatism of Bodyguard and Ra.One as opposed to the pop-ideological brainwashing of 3 Idiots, which is downright annoying. If SRK just repeats himself in a robotic form, Salman lends himself to a quasi-robotic performance, thereby spoofing himself, parodying himself.
Salman alone makes Bodyguard much more endearing than the other two. I also find it very interesting that he has now mastered this bizarre dance vocabulary which is extremely tough to imitate because it is a sort of fitness dance. The opening of Bodyguard with Salman's muscles alone moving in the frame was one such illustration. Towards the end, when he lets his shoulders down and his chest relax, he lets us see the gap between the performer and the performance. That is where Salman retains a charm none of his arrogant compatriots possess on or off the screen.
