Scintillating talk on Development and Ethics by Dr Shiv Vishvanathan. He argued that Development is theft of history, theft of storytelling; in its pre-empting of future, we lose the plurality of our pasts. Highlighting the ethical crisis in front of us, he spoke of how Development practices inclusion on top of a framework of structural exclusion, thereby propagating a politics of obsolescence. In a way, the talk didn't introduce new ideas but painted an entirely new landscape with the classical palette. His true intervention was at the level of language, design, architecture, the very aesthetics of discourse.
