Joys of Lucknow III

1)Shashi Shekhar in Hindustan:

"Ek Admi
Roti belta hai
Ek admi roti khata hai
Ek teesra admi bhi hai
Jo na roti belta hai, na roti khata hai.
Woh sirf roti se khelta hai
Main poochhta hun -
Yeh teesra admi kaun hai?
Mere desh ki sansad maun hai."

Hindi/Urdu journalism is often pathetic. But once in a while when I read gems like this, I think of Hindi novels, Sahitya academy, Srilal Shukla. When did I last read something so pithy yet so beautiful, I do not remember.
2) The shared auto today had a 'cleaner' boy aged not more than 15. He would dismiss male travelers without thinking twice and only ask the women (younger the better) to board the auto. It went on to the extent that I had to confirm with the driver if he was not going to my destination, simply because this boy had dismissed a few people asking for the same destination. He replied, "Haan haan jayenge na. Woh toh aise hi.."

The auto played songs from Judwaa today, rather loudly. Sample this: "Tu mere dil mein bas ja. Mujhko phansa le ya phans ja!"

As we passed one bylane, the boy commented looking at a girl, "Ye us din waali hai.." I thought, for a boy ogling at every girl, he had a good memory.
