Viv's Revenge

Viv was a man from another world. To have a played against the toughest bowling units with what was admittedly not the best batting technique goes on to show that his true mettle lay elsewhere. He backed himself in a manner that few could but he also put a premium on the occasion and theatricality that few could afford to. He remains a riddle to a great extent but of course he needed a sense of time and space that was peculiar to the 70s and 80s. In this entire interview, I only have my doubts about his last answer. I am not so sure he would have excelled so much today simply because he would never find his cues. But for what he was, and how he turned hate into his prime strength, he remains a solitary presence on the peak he climbed.
